Root Canal Treatment
Root canal treatment is a procedure to relieve dental pain and save a tooth. Patients need root canal treatment when there is inflammation or infection in the roots of a tooth or when the nerve has started to die. During root canal treatment, the pulp inside the tooth is carefully removed, cleaned, disinfected and then a filling is placed inside to seal the space. Front teeth tend to have 1 nerve or root canal, where as a molar has at least 3 canals in the tooth as this diagram shows.
Extractions
One of a dentist’s main purposes is to help preserve the natural teeth however sometimes this is not possible and a tooth may have to be removed. This could be due to a tooth that has severe decay or is broken and has been damaged by trauma. In some cases an impacted wisdom tooth may have to be removed as it may be causing recurrent problems. Teeth may also be removed if you are undergoing orthodontic treatment to make space if you have crowding of the teeth.
Whatever the reason for extracting the tooth, it is numbed with Local anaesthetic so you do not feel any pain during removal.

Dentures
A denture is replacement prosthesis used for missing teeth which can be removed. A denture helps you to eat, speak, function, and improves your appearance. A Full denture is used when all teeth are missing and a partial denture is used when some of the teeth still remain and fit around your existing teeth.
A denture can be fitted immediately after having a tooth extracted this is called an ‘immediate denture.’
A denture is usually made from a hard acrylic however there are materials like Chrome and Valplast which have benefits over the standard acrylic denture.

Veneers
A Veneer may be used on a tooth that has been fractured or discolored, or on multiple teeth on the upper or lower teeth to create a perfect smile. Some people have small teeth resulting in spaces that may not be easily closed using braces. Some people have also worn away the edges of their teeth, while others may have teeth that appear crooked. Veneers provide a consistent color, shape, and symmetry, and make the teeth appear straight and give you the smile you've always wanted.
Before you can have a Veneer stuck on a tooth, it needs to modified / altered so it does not look too bulky.
Veneers can be made of porcelain or Ceramic like Emax Veneers. Please book in for a consultation to see if you are suitable.
Crowns
A crown is restoration which caps tooth or dental implant. Crowns are generally needed when a large cavity threatens the long-term health of a tooth. Crowns are often used to improve the strength or appearance of teeth and can be made from many different materials such as porcelain, ceramic, metal or gold. The tooth is prepared and shaped. Then an impression is taken and sent to the lab in order to make the crown. The is a 1 week  turnaround for the crown. During this time a temporary crown is made for the area. Once the crown is back it is cemented in.
Bridges
A bridge is an a type of restoration that replaces a missing tooth or multiple teeth. It bridges the gap between one tooth to another. It is supported by the two teeth on either side and is fixed into place. There are many benefits of having a bridge. A bridge can restore the ability to chew and speak properly, it maintains the shape of your face and prevents teeth from drifting, it distribute your bite properly and  restores your smile.
It is made by a laboratory and is therefore takes 2 appointments. The first for trimming the teeth and taking impressions of the mouth, the second to fit the bridge. It takes over a week to make. In the meantime a covering will be placed over the teeth that were trimmed down to support the bridge. It can be made in different materials. Book an  appointment with the dentist to see if its suitable.

Braces ( Short Term Orthodontics)
A brace is an orthodontic appliance using metal or ceramic buttons called brackets that are bonded to each tooth with a wire that guides them to move, over a period of time and each time the wire is adjusted the teeth will begin to straighten. There are two types of braces - Fixed and removable. Fixed which are kept in place with brackets, wire and bands until your treatment is complete. Removable braces can be removed however you still need to wear it most of the day and night. A fixed brace usually works faster than a removable brace.
